THE DAKAR RALLY
In 2009, the traditional African Dakar route was abandoned because of a growing risk and threats from armed groups in North Africa. Dakar succeeded in crossing the Atlantic to South America because organizers stayed true to Dakar’s core principles: exploring the world’s deserts, extreme endurance, and bringing together top-level athletes and amateurs in a shared adventure.
